Description

The Sassicaia 2019 from Tenuta San Giudo is the best known Italian red wine in the world, produced from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc grapes . The vines grow on soils with a strong presence of limestone and partially clayey areas. A wine that has received numerous awards and recognitions and first marketed in 1968.

Tasting notes

In the glass, Sassicaia 2019 has an intense ruby red color. The nose gives off aromas of ripe red fruits and berries that combine with notes of aromatic herbs and toasted almonds . The sip is rich and compact with a sustained body. The flavor evolves into notes of dried fruit and ends with a persistent finish . A red to be uncorked on special occasions, it goes well with game dishes and red meat main courses.

Processing

The harvest takes place entirely manually , then the grapes are selected in order to eliminate all impurities. They are then softly pressed and de-stemmed. Alcoholic fermentation occurs spontaneously in stainless steel tanks , after which maceration takes place: 11-12 days for Cabernet Franc and 14 for Cabernet Sauvignon. The malolactic fermentation always takes place in steel and finally the base wines ferment separately in French oak for 24 months. After blending, Sassicaia is bottled and left to refine in glass before being put on the market.

The cellar

Tenuta San Guido is a historic winery located in the Bolgheri area and boasts ninety hectares of vineyards, 75 of which are dedicated exclusively to the production of Sassicaia. The name of the estate derives from that of San Guido della Gherardesca. In addition to Sassicaia, the winery produces other excellent quality labels that have become symbols of Italian excellence in the world.
